After a moment, Allease left the room. Linnet had to wonder just where she was going. She looked like the kind of girl that attracted guys and could wrap them around her finger. Linnie figured she would likely team up with someone during what was to come.
As Linnet watched, she immediately noticed Dominic's trembling hand. She wondered what exactly was wrong with the man as he steadied it. Was he having some sort of panic attack? Or was it something worse? Normally, Linnie would have greatly desired to assist him, but now in this twisted game of death, her mind could only focus on her own survival. She immediately stored this information about Dominic away to see if she could figure out more, and maybe use it to her advantage. If she could figure out exactly what triggered this, maybe she could keep him from harming her. After all, it is difficult to choke or stab someone with such a shakey hand, she thought hopefully, nervously looking as James got up again. She couldn't help but feel a slight tinge of gladness at this, if ever so slight. As Dominic asked his question and looked at her, her eyes quickly dropped to the floor, but his gaze, thankfully, soon moved to another person. She noticed James's nod and couldn't help but think just how obvious it was that this was serious.
One of the servants, Hassen, quickly left, bumping into Dominic. Hassen seemed completely off balance. Physically, yes, but also mentally. He was like someone on the edge of a cliff, just waiting for the right thing, whether it be a push or even a slight breeze, to send them over the edge. Linnie was determined that she could not be there if that happened.
Elizabeth, on the other hand, seemed like she might have a good head on her shoulders. Might. On the other hand, she could be almost as off kilter as Hassen was, with just a little push neccessary to break her. She also soon left, her heels clacking obnoxiously. I hope she doesn't have the sense to take those off. They will make it easy to know right where she is, Linnie thought, a tinge of remorse at the necessity to think in this manner. However, she never liked people behind her without her knowledge. It always caused her to jump and set her heart fluttering and racing.
The last to think about was Lira. Lira was the one she was most interested in, and consequently, most wary of out of the group. There was something in his manner, whether the confidence apparent in his body language, or the calculating shifts and absolute coldness of his eyes as he observed, that gave Linnet only one thought about the man. Snake. She had been on the streets far to long to not know a Snake by sight. They were the ones, though usually not physically strong, that were cunning as foxes and deadly as snakes. They were the fast talking salesmen that offered you the "perfect" product or a "once-in-a-lifetime" offer. It was only later that you realized that this product was covered in hooks and now you were trapped. Linnie gave a small shudder just thinking about it. She would trust that man as far as she could through the mansion they were now trapped in. She knew she didn't want to be alone with him for long, as she now seemed to be.
Though it probably crossed others minds, the thought of teaming up with someone else was never something that Linnie considered. She learned long ago that as soon as you lost your usefulness or there was someone better than you, no one would hesitate to drop you, or, in this case, kill you. She watched him carefully until he left, just barely peeking over her knees. She was careful to not look like she was paying attention through this whole time. When he did leave, she decided that she would find the kitchen and find a serviceable knife, or anything sharp that she could use. She wouldn't attack unless attacked, but it was good to be prepared.

Humans dispersed quickly. Allease was already far gone to where ever it was that caught her fancy, and Elizabeth followed soon after, her shoes clip-clopping like a little horse. She'd left him with a lingering look. She'd die quickly, James decided. She was jumpy looking, and perhaps slightly paranoid from the look in her eye. Or maybe she was just frightened, which was twice as bad. A troubled look entered the boy's face for a moment. There wasn't anything he could do about it. It was better for him if they died as 'painlessly' as possible anyway. And with the smallest amount of mess. Strangulation or asphyxiation or something. No blood.
Next to skitter off was Lira. He caught the end of the male's decay into a lesser state before the body flattened itself to the wall and slid away. That one reminded James of Hassen in a chilling way. Speaking of Hassen, James's eyes flicked to the human the servant had bumped into in his passing. James was pleased that he'd won the standoff, but it was a lackluster victory. Hassen was obviously tired and in no mood to put up a proper fight, so the clashing wasn't interesting enough. Dominic seemed to be contending with the shaking his hands were currently enduring, and shortly after James's green eyes landed on him he scooted back to his room, a deep frown on his face.
That left Linnet. She was as good a target as any, and James needed something 'productive' to do. He'd keep an eye on her for a while. she seemed shrewd enough, but at the same time perhaps a bit cowed. But that was humans in general. James hadn't really expected anything different. Green eyes flicked over her, and he meandered his way in her direction. She looked about ready to leave. before he made it to her he paused by Dom's door, resting the flat of his hand on the door for a second as if that alone could tell him if the male was alright. Then he continued. His face was creased by slight trepidation, mostly for her sake. A shy boy would seem less of a threat than a cold servant.
Upon a closer examination, James noted that her eyes were different colors. It was a curious looking ailment. Unearthly in an all to human way. As he neared further, James slowly reached into his jacket, his other gloved hand facing up to show that he meant no threat. From his interior pocket he withdrew a hand sized knife, holding it pinched by the blade between his first finger and thumb. It was a simple weapon, slender but blocky, with a finger length blade with rudimentary steel working and a squarish handle wrapped in a sort of canvass. There was no fuller; the dull sides of the blade were completely smooth. A poor but efficient and strong weapon. He offered it to her handle first, a little flicker of a smile curving one side of his mouth. The look echoed in the surface of his eyes, but the depths were blank as anything.
Business as usual. Drake had instructed him to arm the humans as he found necessary to move the game, and James decided that this young woman had quite the amount of potential for the game from the way she sat calmly, examining the others. And perhaps a little part of her reminded him of another human in a...sparrowish way. His throat bobbed as if he was about to say something, but of course he couldn't. And didn't. He shouldn't go making friends with the humans anyway. He knew how well that had turned out last time he'd done something so foolish as becoming curious and growing close to one of those little blood-spatters.

"You may take him out for walks if you seek my permission first."
Hassen staggered at the words, almost collapsing to the ground. He managed to catch himself just in time, however, and stared blankly at the puppy as it snuffed his shoes. It was large, and from the size of its paws, it still had quite a bit of growing to do. The servant said nothing and paid little to no attention to Drake. Everything went in one ear and out the other, basically, but he was polite and said nothing until the words stopped flowing. Once there was silence (aside from the yipping, that is), he looked up and said loudly, "Zank yew." And that was that.
Drake had not only bought complete, renewed obedience, but also some loyalty. That would ensure that Hassen didn't start clawing at the demon's door in the middle of the night, or sneak about into places he didn't belong. For a little while, at least.
Hassen watched Drake leave before turning around and staring awkwardly at the empty room. How strange; that only James and Linnet. The others must have wandered off without his notice. Well, not all of them. At least one had retreated to their room; he vaguely remembered hearing a door shut. The girl and James were too distracted to really notice him, he decided. He could take the puppy to Alexander, but his master was in a coma and would be unable to properly appreciate his new treasure.
But he had to share the ball of fuzz with someone! His awkward gaze shifted to the puppy whom had decided that Hassen's shoes would make a wonderful chew toy despite the fact that the servant was still wearing them. Lordy, the thing was stupid.
Stupid, but also fuzzy. That was all he needed.
Throwing his arms wide, Hassen let out a sharp "squee" of pleasure and let himself collapse to the ground. While painful, it was also the fastest way to go from vertical to horizontal. The puppy yelped and jumped away only to return shortly afterward. Hassen took his time rubbing, huggling, and just loving on the dog. Once satisfied, he pushed himself back to his feet and picked up the basket. He then began opening doors. Let Linnet and James have their fun, Hassen would go bother someone else with his puppy. He was far too excited to keep it to himself.
Upon reaching Dominic's door, he tried to open it only to have it meet resistance. Something was pressed against the door to prevent it from opening, meaning there was someone inside. Fine. He could play by their rules. Inhaling deeply, Hassen let out a sudden roar, banging on the door with his good hand at the same time. The door let out a sharp yelp and ran away before stopping. Too scared to get any closer, but too curious to stay away for long, it decided to wait until the racket died down.
Well, that was one way to get a person's attention. Now to see if it would get the servant any results.

Linnet quickly looked up as James approached. She hadn't even noticed he was still in the room. How stupid can I be? she thought, mentally berating herself. The nervousness in her eyes increased, as well as the strange fierceness that she had perfected over the years. It made her resemble one of the half starved curs that wandered the streets when they were cornered by particularly cruel schoolboys with nothing else to do. Her eyes held that strange mix that was seen right before fangs were bared. Most of the time, when she was alone after dark, this very look would give any particular attacker pause enough that she could escape, her strange eyes flashing in the moonlight. However, James only continued his approach, one hand up non-threateningly, but the other in his pocket, grabbing for only God knows what. At this, Linnet jumped up, her teeth slightly bared since she now fearfully scowled at James as he pulled out a knife. When he calmly handed it to her, her face returned to its normal blankness as the fierceness drained out of her eyes like water down a drain. She hesitantly put out a hand, her eyes not leaving James's face as she took the knife, her hand brushing lightly against his. She let out a small breath meekly spoke.
"Thank ya... evar so much... Sur James," Linnie said softly with a slight nod of her head. She wasn't quite sure what to call him, James was too informal and Mister sounded like an old man. In any case, Sir James seemed to fit him nicely. She also wasn't quite sure if she was supposed to be above him or below him. He was a servant and also a captor, but she was little better than a servant as well. Either way, it was a silly thing to consider, but she couldn't quite help herself. She gripped the knife firmly for a moment, looking at it carefully. It wasn't pretty and shiny, but she had never really had anything pretty and shiny anyway. It was a adequate blade for her needs and she wasn't one to be picky. Linnie reached back to tuck it in the wide sash of the somewhat wrinkled work apron she still wore, realizing she still had a couple coins sown into it. She made sure it was adequately hidden from even the most picky eyes while still somewhat accessible as she loosened and adjusted the garment.
After a moment, her eyes hardened slightly as a new thought occurred to her. "Are... are there otha knifes in the kitchin?" she asked, her now mostly serious eyes fixed on James's face as if searching for the answer there. Suddenly, there was a loud, inhuman roar and pounding on a door. Linnet jumped nearly a foot of the ground, hitting back on the wall, but not especially hard. When she landed, her hand was already fingering the knife through the fabric. It's Hassen, she noted, with slight fear and agitation. Has he cracked already? She now noticed there was a dog with the man, but made no move toward it. Dogs were never to be approached in her thinking. When she realized there was no threat to her at the moment, her gaze returned to James's face.

After a few moments of doing nothing but walking around and taking deep breaths, Allease was finally calm and level headed. Her body leaned against the wall, it was silent all around her as she thought; it was certainly something she had never done, killing someone that is. It was memories of the farm that came to her mind; Allease’s first time butchering a farm animal. Her skin became chilled and she shuttered a little bit, not realizing how truly afraid she was of killing an animal.
The thing was, people weren’t animals; they were much more violent and horrid- at least an animal can die innocent, while a person cannot. Or that’s how she thought at least; that is why she had loved animals so much more- they had no true evil desires. Her blue eyes peered open as she got her plan together; Allease would try her hardest to avoid any contact at any cost, from anyone unless it was from the three men who had put her here. She decided that it was best to allow them to kill each other off; if she had so happen to run into someone, she would certainly fight back if they had attacked first.
Poor Allease didn’t have much on her though, and she would have to watch her back carefully- she would have to play her cards carefully. She thought over her surroundings; a main bathroom where everyone shares the tub, which meant no baths- it was too dangerous to take one here (even though anyone who knew Allease knew she absolutely loved baths). Her room didn’t have locks, but despite it plain looks, (Allease was able to examine it very vaguely and quickly as she left the room when the young boy, James herded them out) the room was quite filled with unnoticeable weapons. Even though her room was established, it wouldn’t protect her from being attacked in the hallways.
In her midst of thinking, she hadn’t realized the hot drops on her cheeks until she paused; Allease raised a hand up towards her face to touch a small tear. Was, was she crying? Before she could react further, a small choke escaped from her lips; she felt utterly pathetic- crying in a situation like this. Allease raised her arms towards her face and quickly wiped it dry; shutting her eyes tightly to avoid any more tears from falling. She quickly wiped her nose against her sleeve before opening her eyes once more. Get it together! You need to survive and crying won’t do much good! She scolded herself in her mind. Her blue eyes became icy and her nose went red; great, now everyone will realize that she was crying and point her out as the weakling of the group.
Even though she wasn’t crying anymore, hiccups still escaped from her mouth and her body trembled lightly, but unnoticeabley as she headed down the hall, still wiping her face. She slammed her hands against her cheeks hard to try and get herself together before stopping at the kitchen once more. Thoughts ran through Allease’s head as she stared emptily at the kitchen, should she grab a knife? She knew she didn’t have anywhere to put it without having a chance of hurting herself as well; a sigh escaped from her lips before she quickly made her way towards where she started. When she had turned the corner, a loud yelp nearly startled her half to death.
She couldn’t help but to peer her head around the corner, to find Hassen by Dominic’s door, and a, was that a dog? Allease’s heart thumped loudly before she turned the corner slightly to make her appearance. “It’s adorable.” She was monotone, but her eyes loving and happy at the sight of the puppy. “When did you get it?” Her head leaned against the wall slightly as she watched the puppy- all its fur just made it look cute. It was then she realized what she was saying, and who she was saying it too, not only that but he had seemed to be busy. Her lips parted slightly before standing straight up, away from leaning on the wall.
“You seem busy. I am truly sorry for disrupting you.” A weak smile was planted on her lips as she stared at him and the dog; oh how she wanted to leave, but she couldn’t, not just yet. Allease hadn’t known why she couldn’t move, but she couldn’t; perhaps it was the dog? Allease was so focused on the dog, that she hadn’t recognized Linnet and James standing there until her eyes carefully averted towards them. She stared silently at Linnet before her gaze reached James and then back to Hassen and his dog; maybe it was a good idea to stay forever in her room.

Elizabeth let out a sigh. Realizing that she had stopped, she continued walking around the mansion. Passing a few tables and fancy sofa's. She closed her eyes in annoyance to the silence of the house. How she wished for noise! Anything at all! As though someone were answering her prayers, she heard a loud banging and a bit of yapping. Was that a dog? She thought for a moment then brushed it off. She needed to avoid all contact, but If she were able to join with someone?
She shook her head to clear the idea from her mind. Horrible idea. And who would want to join with her. Now that she thought back to the hallway, she had looked to timid. To frightened. So now she looked as though she was the easiest target. Witch she was almost positive that most of the players bought that. It could be used to my advantage… a grin played her lips for a moment. She was almost certain that she would die in this mansion. Whether it be by another's hand or her taking her own life. She was going to take some down with her.
She let out another, more shaky breath. How could she be thinking of- no. This was a game of kill or be killed and if she wanted to see her parents again, she would have to stop this scared little girl attitude and find a weapon. A weapon. She needed one, she wouldn't be able to kill someone with her bare hands. All she needed was to be quicker. And that she could easily do.
She glanced around where she was, the best place to start looking was a bathroom of some sort. There would probably be some razors she could use. The only place she could think that would have a bathroom were the rooms upstairs, and she didn't want to go back up there for a while. She walked forward slightly, cursing the shoes she knelt down and untied them. Her anger starting to bubble up inside.
"Damn shoes!" She mumbled and flung them to the ground. One of the thick heels breaking in half as they lay useless on the ground. Now just a place to hide them so people will think that I am still wearing them. She thought to herself and spotted a shady corner that the shoes would easily be overlooked in. She set them there, and bit her tounge at her outburst. If only they would come when she needed them to then maybe she could have a chance…

She was obviously wary, but she still accepted his offering. James couldn't decide what to think. Her hand was hesitant when it accepted his offering, but she did take the knife. James decided that she was going to be a good player. Probably not the last one in the game, the one that Drake would laugh at when he informed the poor bloke that he'd lied about 'winning' the game, but she'd make it rather well. There was a certain...fierceness around her that reminded James of Deget, but Linnet was much more feral. At the same time though, her meek voice put him off slightly. She was...sweet. Not in a sickening way, but it a still clean after so much trouble sort of way. She had a lilt of cockney to her accent, she was obviously of a lower class, but she called him Sir. Well, Sur, but it was the same thing. James's mouth twitched into a grin as he nodded a simple 'your welcome.'
He examined her face further as she examined her weapon. behind him he could feel Hassen, he could hear the sounds of him breathing and moving, but the boy couldn't tell exactly what the male was doing. There were other sounds as well, barking? but James didn't look around. He had his suspicions though, and an unbidden image of a headless kitten sprung in his mind. His eyes wandered to a point above the blonde girl's head as he listened carefully, but her voice brought the green orbs back to her face. He was contemplating whether to show her the reason for his silence when a loud sound blared from behind him. What in the hell was Hassen doing?
James looked almost nonchalantly over his shoulder, a vaguely annoyed look on his face. Hassen was trying to make Domnic let him into the room, and there was a puppy by his side. James, knowing Hassen, assumed that the human was intent on showing off his little puppy. When he'd received the kitten he'd even shown it to James in his excitement. Well, it was probably because he'd been disappointed with Alexander's reaction to the animal and James was pretty much the only 'living' person in the manor. He had known that Drake intended to give Hassen a puppy, but he couldn't help a slight flare of jealousy from writhing blindly in his belly. It was the principle of the thing. The fact that Drake always treated Hassen as if he was the favored child, even if their was an element of wariness wrapped up in every encounter between the two.
James shook his head to clear it of those thoughts and his eyes flicked back to Linnet. She was still recovering from her surprise. He waited until she was looking at him again, then opened his mouth in a false yawn, wide enough so that the severed stump in the back of his throat was obvious. Nothing to see here, no tongue, no nothing. He closed his mouth almost leisurely, his eyes settling back on her as he nodded his head slowly in response to her question.
Now he could hear another female voice behind him, speaking with Hassen. definitely not Dominic, so obviously the man hadn't opened his door yet, if he planned to at any point in the future. The voice was apologizing for something. There was a quiet pause, then James felt eyes settle on his back, which made his torso draw forward slightly as his spine straightened under the eyes. Force of habit. he'd done that even before Drake had found him. All the elderly people with their hunched backs had made him consciously make an effort to keep his straight. And since then it had been a mindless habit, even though he really didn't need to worry about his posture anymore. His spine would remain in top condition for, well, so long as he kept up his diet of souls and Drake didn't get it in his crazy daemon mind to steal his spine as well. Which would make it rather hard to walk, or do much of anything, so James decided that it was an unlikely happenstance.
Hopefully. But one never can tell with those daemon sorts.
One never can tell.

Linnie was somewhat taken aback by James's yawn, or more exactly, what was missing from it. He had no tongue, just a stump. Linnie kept the pity she felt from her eyes, however. She knew how horrible it felt to be pitied, no matter what the circumstance. Though her countenance didn't change, it was still obvious that she had noticed. At James's nod, Linnet gave a little sigh, looking down slightly and crossing her arms. Her eyes went back to his face as she gave a smile. It was a small, half-hearted sort of smile, but a smile none the less. "Well, I'll be off then, Sur James." She gave a little nod before stepping around him, noticing Allease now standing in the hall talking to Hassen. Allease glanced over at James and Linnie and Linnet noticed James stiffen beside her. Did Allease make him stiffen, or was it just the feeling of being watched?
Linnie hesitantly took a step toward the Hall. She had to find the kitchen somehow, but she really didn't want to go past Allease, Hassen, and especially, the dog. She determinedly kept walking, keeping her head down as she past the dog as far as she could be from him and the same for Hassen and Allease. She meant to calmly walk, but as she went around the corner, she found herself to be nearly runnning, though still at what could be called a walk. As soon as she was out of their sight she did begin running, stopping and peering around each corner before continuing. After running through a few halls and sneaking past the other woman, Elizabeth, whose back was turned, Linnie found the kitchen. She hesitated, making sure there was no one in either the hall or the kitchen before she continued in. She quickly rummaged through all the drawers and even the cabinets, and took out every knife, and even a few other sharp objects, and stuck them in the deep front pocket of her apron. She layered and alternated the blades, hoping they wouldn't make as much noise that way.
She poked her head out of the door to the hallway, and, not seeing anyone, hurried off to find a staircase. She only walked now, not wanting it to be obvious that she had things in her apron. She soon found the stairs and went up to the second level to hide the knives. She wondered where exactly the room they were supposed to avoid was. She calmly wandered about, hiding a couple knives in a vase, a few under a mattress in an unoccupied bedroom, some stuffed under a heavy wardrobe in a different room. Soon she had hidden them all and felt a bit better as she sat in a random corner on a thick carpet. Even though it was likely she wouldn't be the only one James supplied a knife to, they at least weren't so readily available now. She wondered if there was another kitchen somewhere and began wandering again.
She found the hall with the closed door and decided it would be better to not even go down it. After walking through a few more halls, Linnie began feeling a bit tired. She stopped in what seemed to be a sort of parlor that was near some narrow stairs leading to the attic. She slowly entered the dark room and looked around. There were a couple sofas, a little table, and some art on the walls, but not much else. She took the knife James gave her out and squeezed between one of the couches and the wall, hidden from anyone looking in from the door. I just want to sit and rest for a minute out of everyone's way, she thought. She began trying to process all that happened, tears streaming silently down her pale cheeks, the knife in her lap.

Hassen was about ready to throw himself against the door to force it open when a voice distracted him. It was a woman's voice, an she sounded emotionally drained. He could use that to his advantage, he figured. Though, what really got him, was the fact that she seemed interested in his new puppy, which he was desperate to show off. And then she tried to leave. Wait, what? Why? She had been so interested only seconds earlier! Why would she leave? No, he wasn't going to allow this!
Wirling around, he attempted to say; "Warten sei!" but ended up butchering the words so horribly that the result was an unintelligible mess of harsh sounds. It apparently conveyed his desire for her to wait because she never moved from her spot despite having earlier voiced her desire to leave. That or some invisible force was holding her down. He didn't know, nor did he care. The fact was, here was someone that he could show off his new puppy to and they would (hopefully) enjoy it! Opening his mouth, Hassen clicked his tongue several times; catching the puppy's attention and calling it over. It happily complied and tripped over its feet as it hurried over.
Large strides carried Hassen over to Allease before she could decide to leave; evidence that he was fully capable of ignoring the pain he was in and move as though gliding through the air. Facts that only made him more dangerous than he already was. His excited grin - much like that of a child that just got candy - was distorted into a pained grimace by the split skin and stitches that held the remainder of skin together. One would think he would have learned after four months that picking the stitches off wasn't going to help the wound heal any faster. At lest he wasn't removing the stiches further back as regularly and violently as he had the ones closer to his mouth.
Hassen was tempted to lift the dog, but his muscles refused. They were already burning from the effort of standing straight and keeping his posture upright rather than caving in on itself. Then there was the fact that he was moving as though nothing were wrong, which was quite the opposite of what his legs were telling him. But that didn't matter. Not now. Not when he had a lovely little puppy to love on and that could take the pain away. Sweeping his bad hand toward the dog, he asked proudly, "Vah yoo hink?"

The sound of butchering words reached Allease’s ears as she was about to take her breath to her steps to move; his voice had sounded harsh, and it seemed that he was either trying to yell at her, or calling her over. Even though she knew she should’ve moved, her body hadn’t listened to her, so she stood in her same spot, allowing Hassen to do what he wanted. When Allease realized he was striding over towards, with his adorable puppy, she could only muster out a soft, small smile that sat across her face gently.
When Hassen’s face became distorted, Allease’s smile soon disappeared, feeling as if she wanted to pet the boy more than the dog. It was then she had realized that the boy who had once looked like a stray fighting dog that she often seen roam the streets, was now an innocent puppy who was just looking for a playmate; at that thought, Allease’s smile quickly returned. The dog trailed behind the boy as he continued his way towards Allease; the puppy’s big feet flopped onto the floor, making the scene only cuter.
”Vah yoo hink?” It was only a few seconds later before Allease collapsed; her hands out in the open, waiting for puppy to go near her, which it did. It sniffed her arms, before looking back at Hassen than back towards Allease, going a bit closer. “He is adorable!” She couldn’t help but to smile wide, her smile almost matching Hassen’s childish one. Her head looked towards Hassen as her hands traced over the puppy’s head, rubbing its ears and under its snout.
“You know, if you had ears and a tail, I’d say you guys would be twins.” Her voice was gentle as Allease quickly became lost in the moment- it was her weakness, animals. She would become oblivious when there was something as cute as an animal near her, which would probably be her greatest weakness if someone got so smart to lure her out with the small pup. Her hands trailed towards the butt of the dog before scratching the spot right before its back connected with its tail.
“I remember when I had a dog,” She started, thinking that Hassen would be interested to hear her story about the dog she had on the farm. “He was all black and brown with ears that stood straight up. Oh, I could remember him now.” Allease’s head rose up towards Hassen’s face. “I think that if I still had him now, you would be ecstatic.” Her cheeks became a rosy color while she continued to love on the small dog. “He was the smartest thing ever. He could herd even the biggest of cows to the barn at night, yet, still be as gentle as a sweet mother.” At this moment, she was talking to no one in particular- whoever could hear her was welcome to listen.
Allease rose from her position before looking at Hassen once more. “I’m sure you’ll be a fantastic owner. You guys seem to get along so much well now.” Her smile was now wider than before, connecting ear to ear. She put her hand down to pet the puppy some more, the dog was big enough to reach her fingers, while Allease was small enough to reach the dog’s nose. “If you want, I could help train him. We could make him sit, or lay down- we can even teach him to play dead or catch a ball.”
Play dead… It was then that her mind shot back to her head; the drop back to reality was hard enough to make her bob her head forward. What am I saying? Her blue eyes stared at the small pup, who was now trying to catch her crazy fingers that wrestled against the puppy’s nose. I am here to die, and yet, I play around like a young, blind child? Her thoughts fought against her as her hands became still, causing the pup to nibble on her fingers before sniffing it; almost wondering why the play things stopped.

So far, Lira was enjoying his time away from everyone. There was so many things to see and memorize. He needed a clear mind for that. This was a life or death scenario and he hadn't been in such a dangerous one before. Life had taught him to trust no one. Everyone was going to try to use you for their own gains and worth. They didn't give a crap about anyone but themselves. It was each one for them selves. Was it a harsh way to live? Maybe, but it was the only way Lira knew how. This was the way he was raised and...bred. Not unlike an animal.
As he walked through the corridors, his palm was stuck out and touching against the cool wall. Touch was a good way to keep him in reality. If the darkness of his mind tried to take over, Lira needed to something to keep him there. Was this a weakness? Lira was sure it was but didn't really care. No one but a few people had ever seen the weak, unstable side of him and he wasn't going to let it start now.
He shut his dark eyes, breathing shallowly through his nose. That weak side of him longed for the warmth of his thick blankets and his hand trembled slightly. "Don't be foolish." He spoke. Lira flinched at hearing his own voice that had come out so raspy and hoarse. Well, Lira never used his voice much. Only when it suited his purpose. Usually he had others to speak for him. A noise reached his ears and he cocked his head to the side. A woman.... What idiot would speak so loudly in a place where she was a target? Should he go after her? They might as well start this now. The sooner it was over the sooner he could go home.
Hesitantly, his long, lanky legs crept foward toward the sound. Then he took in his surroundings and almost cursed. This where he had started, wasn't it? How could he have been so stupid?
"If you want, I could help train him. We could make him sit, or lay down- we can even teach him to play dead or catch a ball.”
The voice wasn't familiar but Lira had a feeling she may have been talking to one of Drake's servants. Yeah.. he should definitly stay away from them. Almost feeling relieved, Lira took long strides away from the room. He hadn't wanted to kill with his bare hands either. That seemed a bit too barbaric and Lira took pride in being quite refined.
His hsand on the wall again, Lira turned into a hall that he hadn't yet explored. The size of the place was annoying. Even Lira's own house wasn't this big. However, Lira insisted on keeping his place to an appropriate size against his mother's wishes. Why hadn't he gotten a bigger place to live? He surely had the money... Maybe living in a small house felt more.. secure.
With a shake of his head, Lira began to mock himself. Why was he thinking about houses? Maybe he should find a target to follow...

Lira's thin lips twisted up into a humorless smile as the boy seemed to think about his offer. A weapon would be nice. It would definitly boost up his confidence anyway. The servant started patting himself down and Lira waited anxiously. If there was a weapon on him, it would save a lot of time and trouble. After receiving the weapon, Lira would go back to his room and sleep for a bit. Then... then maybe he would strike. He had to admit, it was kind of thrilling to think about taking a human life. Of course he had managed to drive many anguished people to suicide... but that wasn't the same, was it? Lira shook his head slightly. No, of course it wasn't the same. Those people had chosen to die. Now, it would be Lira ending a life by his own hand. A finger started tapping the wall anxiously. The more sensitive part of him was drowning in guilt and shame and self-disgust, but what other choice did he have? He wanted to live. So he would live. If that meant others had to die, so be it. Lira was a survivor though most didn't realize it.
He was a bit surprised when James grabbed his wrist and started leading him around. Oh. Lira felt a bit disappointed. How could he memorize the lefts and rights now? It was bothersome but not impossible, but now Lira would have to start from the beginning point again. Otherwise, that would throw him off and the mental map would be very disfigured. Lira had to clear his mind, though, as he slightly stumbled before catching his footing. His eyes darted from side to side to the front, making sure no one was in the way. He's always hated people. They were annoying and made everything more dramatic than it should have.
But what if James was actually leading him to his death? Lira swore mentally. What had possessed him into asking Drake's henchman for help? For all he knew, James could have been leading him into a trap. He caught himself from falling again. Damn. Well, that was his fault for trusting the little rat in the first place, wasn't it?
The little trip seemed to take a while before the two stopped at a stair case. Lira took a step foward but James stopped him, using his hands to clearly signal for Lira to wait. Who was he to argue? Lira wasn't used to waiting for people but he guessed that this was unavoidable. Making the kid mad would surely be a mistake. His foot started tapping the floor quietly but the noise seemed to vibrate within his skull.
"Get it together." He hissed to himself, clutching his own head. He leaned against the wall and looked up when he heard James start coming back down the stairs. His gaze went immediately to the blade that James held out. Lira almost flinched back away from it. Swallowing hard, The tall young man grasped the handle gently and turned it this way and that, trying to get a feel for the weapon. It made him feel dangerous and though the knife was small, it was heavy. It would do.
"Thanks," Lira gave a curt nod. "Mind leading me back?"

After the cursed monster was gone, Drake finished his work quickly. Much too quickly, and it left him with time on his hands. After a short while of staring at his desk, the man slid off his chair and onto the floor, leaning against the left of said chair and crossing his arms. He wanted to go find James and harass him a little or something, but he knew to leave the humans well enough alone for the time being, until they were fully immersed in the game. But speaking of humans, they needed food at some point, didn't they. Ah, there was something to occupy time. Some of them hadn't eaten since the day before, he assumed, seeing as he'd nabbed some of the early in the morning. But that left another decision to be made. He could just leave the food in their rooms for them to find when they happened across, or he could catch them all and herd them into the main hall and make them eat together. The first was easier, but the second was loads more fun.
Perhaps he'd wait and see, such things always made themselves clear with time. Mostly. Sort of. Okay, not really. But still. Drake wrinkled his nose slightly. he'd have to stop arguing with himself or he'd have no interesting talking companions anymore. God knew that James had literally nothing in that department, and Hassen wasn't much better.
The light haired daemon stood up, stretched, then set out for the kitchen. He didn't run into any humans, nor anyone else for that matter. He did however, upon his entrance into the room, discover that something was missing. He pulled open every single drawer int he substantial kitchen to the same result. The humans had cleaned him completely out of knives. The daemon threw his hands in the air with mild exasperation. "How do they expect me to make them food if they run around filching all the knives?" Admittedly he was torn between feeling pleased and a sort of annoyance. They'd jumped on the game quickly, but there were a good many knives in the kitchen, more than they needed. One of them might be hoarding them, which was no fun. Good thing James was running about with his own weapons.
Soup was pretty much the only thing Drake could make on his own without burning the manor down. It came from dual impatience and negligence. He grew bored of things quickly, and his senses didn't register the nuances of human foods very well. How was he supposed to tell if something was burning or not until it literally burst into flames? It made no difference to him anyway. He was starting to develop a better sense for human food though, he could tell the difference between aw and cooked meat. Not that he really cared, he didn't need to eat such things. In the past it hadn't stopped him, but lately he had no urge to consume his victims after their souls. This life was making him go soft, eh?
The male withdrew his own little blade from his front pocket. He'd have to clean it off, but it'd do. He hadn't really had to prod at this group, and he'd managed to get most of them without witnesses, so he'd had no use for his deadly little 'letter opener.' After holding the fine blade in the fire for a couple moments, Drake wandered back over to attack the soon to be contents of the soup with the haphazard precision he did most everything with. Upon finishing attacking the food items, the daemon hummed to himself as he dumped them into the large pot on the fire. he very much preferred the fireplace to all these newer means of cooking. Fire was a good comfort. And a friend. It was very close to his...er...heart. Not this one though. It was just close to the soup.

James choked down a slightly derisive laugh as the human flinched slightly away from the blade. Oh, he shouldn't laugh, in the man's position he'd do the very same thing. But with his mind and his body occupied with something so trivial James felt positively buoyant. It had been much too long since he'd been this happy. Okay, happy wasn't the word for it, but there seems to be no other word for it. careless, perhaps? Acting the age of his body and not his mind. Almost...mischievous. for few seconds James wish again that he was actually this age, that he'd grow older and die, but the thought was pushed out by a request from the human. His eyes, which had fogged over, snapped back to the taller's face. He bowed slightly in affirmation, then flicked his fingers in a 'come on' gesture as he turned to walk back down the hall.
The boy debated whether to take the human back down to where they had been previously or to take him right to the hall with his quarters. The latter was a swifter route, the stairwell was about a hall away, a servant one, and opened right out on the hall with the human quarters. The other, the way they had come, was a longer path, but it was mostly a straight shot to the main stairwell. The dark haired boy decided on the latter, taking him to his quarters, he could find his way back from there if he wanted.
James shot a look back over his shoulder to make sure the human was still follow him, then took the turn down the other hall, which was considerably smaller than most of the other halls in the manor, as it was only a servant walkway, and it was much darker. The builder's hadn't bothered to put in a proper amount of lighting, and it hadn't bothered Drake very much. The boy clunked down the stairs and pushed through the handle-less door that led out to the much brighter hall beyond. A sweep of his eyes told James that Hassen was gone, but Allease was standing at the far end of the hall, her back to them. It appeared that she was speaking to someone out of his line of sight.
James held the door open for Lira and bowed again. He turned his head in the woman's direction then looked back at Lira, his eyebrows raised slightly. It was his job after all, to egg them on. And Lira didn't seem to need too much egging on, if James's analysis of him proved true. He was rather glad however, that he'd chosen to arm Linnet instead of pursuing Lira right off and presenting the weapon to him, because he rather liked Linnet, she rather curious, for a human, and Lira might've offed her, given the chance. That would be a shame. James knew he shouldn't go off a start liking any of the humans, they were there to die after all, but he was rooting for Linnet, sort of.

It didn't take as long to get back to where he had started. There wasn't near as many twists and turns. This bugged Lira but he shrugged it off. Then he followed James to a darker hallway where it was also much smaller. Lira had had to duck his head through that one and it was troublesome. This was probably the servants quarters.
Lira just kepts his eyes trained on the moving figure above him and narrowed his eyes, trying to keep him in sight. Then his feet slowed as James pushed open the handless door. That was better. The brightness gave Lira a feeling a relief. Predators needed to see their prey, did they not? He blinked a couple of times trying to get used to the sudden brightness and looked around. He spotted a woman ahead and it looked like she was alone. What was her name...? Wasn't it something unique? It began with an A, he knew that much. She was pretty, he gave her that. But in his life, Lira learned that the prettiest were the most dangerous. Those type of women knew how to use their appearance to their advantage. He learned not to fall for those smiles.
James looked at the woman whose name began with an A, then back to him. Lira stared at James. He could feel the weight of the knife in his hand. Did James mean for him to kill this woman? Now that he actually had the weapon, Lira felt nervous and wracked with guilt at his thoughts. The thought of piercing the skin and into actual flesh had never really occured to him until now. What did he do? Should he give it a try, anyway?
It wasn't as if this was directly his fault. This was a survival game, wasn't it? Any crimes that anyone in this house committed, would be held responsible by Drake himself.... wouldn't it? The tall black haired man could feel James excitement. Of maybe that was just his own pounding heart... But his leg took one step foward and his gaze took on a steely resolve. If he was going to do this, then he had to do it right. And fast. It wouldn't be very kind of him if he left her with a wound but not actually killed her. He didn't wish for anyone to suffer.
Each step seemed to fall to the floor with a large thud, though Lira knew that was not the case. His steps were almost silent. His breathing shallow and light. His left palm was growing sweaty and the handle of the knife seemed to be slipping from his grasp. Lira just held it tighter and his right hand twitched as he approached his target. Did she know what was coming? The adrenaline was making his stomach hurt and his hearing seemed to take in every sight, his legs jumpy with the instinct to run.
Then he was just an arm's length away and he raised his blade. He was trying to make a neat cut to the neck. However, his arms were shaking so badly that he was only able to jab at her left shoulder. He tried again but he still didn't get where he was trying to cut. By then, Lira was just a ball of nerves and the second failure seemed to be laughing at him, mocking him. He shut his eyes tightly as he turned around and fled down the hall, to where he knew his bedroom would be. His breathing was quick and loud. His shoulders trembling with the sin he had tried to commit.
This was too much.
